The Alarm Services Bylaw requires a valid alarm permit for each alarm system in use at a premises.
A nonrefundable permit issuance fee of $30 Dollars for residential and commercial premises is due with the application. Make cheques or money orders payable to the 'City of Edmonton', to the Alarm Control Detail at Edmonton Police Headquarters, 9620-103A Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, T5H 0H7.
An alarm user shall obtain a valid alarm registration prior to operating or causing
an alarm system to be operated at an alarm site. A separate alarm registration is
required for each alarm site.
Alarm permits are non-transferable and attached to the location and permit holder. A permit cannot be transferred to a new address or reassigned to a new occupant or business owner.
All fees and fines owed by an applicant must be paid before an alarm registration
may be issued.
In order to be approved, an alarm registration or renewal application must include:
Name, complete address, and telephone number of the person who will be the registration
holder. This person will be responsible for the proper maintenance, operation and, payment
of fees or fines assessed under the City Ordinance.
Classification of the property type as either residential, commercial small (under 500 square meters), or commercial large (over 500 square meters). Apartments, condominiums and manufactured homes are considered residential.
Classification of the alarm system for each alarm located at the alarm site. Classifications
include audible, silent, video, burglary, panic, holdup/robbery.
Mailing address of the registration holder if different than the address of the
alarm site.
Indication of any dangerous or special conditions present at the alarm site including,
but not limited to, guard dogs, weapons, chemical agents, and explosives.
Keyholders/Guard Service: 2 keyholders are mandatory unless you use a guard service
Name and contact number of the alarm company and monitoring company for the alarm
system at the alarm site and the date installed.
Any changes to information contained in this application MUST be brought to the immediate attention of the Edmonton Police Service, Alarm Bylaw Unit by either submitting an updated application or advising by phone or email.
Any false statement of a material fact made by an applicant for the purpose of obtaining
an alarm registration shall be sufficient cause for refusal to issue a registration
and may subject applicant to prosecution as established by provincial or local law.
