A false alarm is described as the activation of an alarm system by mistake, inadvertence, neglect, malfunction, accident, power failure, natural causes, unannounced testing, faulty installation, maintenance, or any other cause when Police or Fire Department personnel assistance is not required. False alarms are also known as nuisance alarms in that they detract from the ability of emergency services personnel to devote all of their efforts to addressing bona fide emergency situations and circumstances.
